Update on Draft 1 STM BREF – Surface Treatment of Metals and Plastics
Revision of the STM BREF: Sector Feedback Requested on Proposed Emission Limit Values
Within the framework of the revision of the STM BREF and in preparation for the second EU-BRITE data assessment workshop, likely scheduled for the end of March 2026, the Department of Environment of Flanders and the BBT Knowledge Centre are examining whether it would be appropriate to propose separate BBT-GEN (BAT-associated emission levels – BAT-AELs) for certain relevant subsectors or specific activities in surface treatment, should the data demonstrate significant differences.
Possible scenarios:
- For some parameters, emissions fall within or below the proposed BBT-GEN ranges; in such cases, no additional comments are formulated (for information purposes).
- For other parameters, specific proposals and questions have been addressed to the sector.
