Final STM BREF meeting in Seville: last opportunity to discuss the impact of the new BAT Conclusions
These concluding meetings of the Technical Working Group (TWG) are characterised by in-depth technical discussions and represent the final opportunity to review and, where necessary, amend the content of the BREF document, particularly the BAT Conclusions in Chapter 5. All comments and alternative proposals must be technically substantiated and discussed within the TWG.
Call to surface treatment companies
VOM encourages all surface treatment companies concerned about their future operations and regulatory obligations to carefully review Chapter 5 – "Best Available Techniques (BAT) Conclusions for the Surface Treatment of Metals and Plastics."
This chapter introduces, among other things, new reference values for:
- BAT-AELs (BAT Associated Emission Levels);
- BAT-AEPLs (BAT Associated Environmental Performance Levels).
Particular attention should be paid to:
- 5.1.11 Emissions to Water
- 5.2 Sector-Specific Conclusions and Emerging Techniques
Submit your comments in time
Both the European industry association CETS and VOM will collect comments from the industry. These comments must be submitted to the national TWG members by 11 September, so they can be forwarded to EU-BRITE.
To gather the sector's views and concerns, VOM is organising an online workshop for its members on Monday, 31 August at 3:00 p.m.
During this workshop, we will discuss the impact of the proposed BAT Conclusions and jointly identify the industry's priority issues.
Your input is crucial. This is the final formal opportunity to influence the future STM BREF and the associated legislation, which will have a significant impact on the European surface treatment industry.
